Arizona Seminars
by Richard Leis: Five of us started h+ at the University of Arizona in August 2006. We are not formally affiliated with the World Transhumanist Association, but we are considering it. The h+ members include University of Arizona undergraduate and graduate students and staff members, two biotech entrepreneurs working on new DNA sequencing technology, and a housewife who is competing for the M-Prize. All are interested in transhumanist ideas, but we all have different beliefs and interests. Most are interested in physical immortality. Attendance varies between 6 to 12 individuals per meeting.
We generally have one presenter who talks from 10 to 45 minutes or longer. The presenter may be a club member or an invited guest. The presentations are usually open so that anyone can interrupt with questions or comments. The presentation is then followed by more discussion (if enough people stick around). Sometimes we then go out for dinner and drinks. We also periodically hold "Movie Night" where we watch transhumanist-related documentaries at a club member's home.
